The role of higher education institutions in achieving the goals of sustainable development and ways to develop it, an applied study on the southern governorates of Palestine

The study aimed to reveal the role of Palestinian higher education institutions in achieving the sustainable development goals. It also aimed to identify ways to develop the role of higher education institutions in achieving the sustainable development goals. The study used the descriptive analytical method, the comprehensive survey method, and the study tool was a questionnaire consisting of four axes: intellectual capital, scientific research, technical education, and encouraging innovation-based education. The research sample consisted of 150 individuals, graduates and students of Palestinian higher education institutions, who were selected using the method Randomization and the number was calculated according to Richard Thompson's equation to calculate the sample size. Among the most important results of the study: The role of higher education institutions in achieving the goals of sustainable development was average, with a relative weight of 63.30%, and there were no statistically significant differences between the responses of the study sample due to the variables of gender, employment status, and academic qualification in all aspects of the questionnaire and technology. The study recommended adopting A strategic plan to enhance technical education, encourage enrollment, provide incentives to enrolled male and female students, and activate community service in higher education institutions.
