Abstract:
The study adopted the descriptive analytical approach, and the study population consisted of the Vice President of the University for Academic Affairs and the deans and heads of departments at the university, numbering (35) deans and department heads. The study was applied to a purposive sample of (8) individuals. An interview tool was used.
The results of the study showed the effective role of universities in meeting the requirements of sustainable development, as the university becomes a source for producing knowledge and information, disseminating it in society and benefiting from it, by providing qualified academic staff who possess creative ideas in addition to providing sources of knowledge about the requirements of sustainable development.
The study came out with a set of recommendations, the most important of which is developing a strategic vision for higher education institutions that works to achieve structural synergy between them and societies to achieve a combination that includes integrating the functions of higher education to achieve the requirements of sustainable development and move to new strategies for learning based on the perspective of lifelong learning and achieving integration between education. Training and transforming higher education institutions into research centers and incubators for knowledge industry projects, especially the software and information technology industry.
